It was a Monday night and I was exhausted from a long weekend of complicated dating, so I wanted something uncomplicated to eat. I decided to cheat and just pick up from Whole Foods pre-made macaroni and cheese: and old time comfort food. The old reliable golden goodness. The pasta and meatballs looked good too, but I had enough Italian for awhile.
As soon as I walked in my door, I placed the groceries down on the table and searched for my goodies. I immediately ripped off the lid and pondered the best way to heat it up. The directions said to heat in the oven for 20 mins...so I did. And then another 20 mins...and another 10 mins. Took longer than planned, but finally reached the right temperature. It is really thick, so I think that is why it took longer. Or maybe because I need a new oven...so just watch it carefully.
A girl still needs meat sometimes, so I pulled out my well stashed turkey sausage to spice things up: sliced it and threw it into the electric pan.
Then with a little bit of this and that...
and cranking up the heat, the magic green cap gave me this charred flavor
Now it was time to plate and see if the magic transcended to the macaroni.
It did not. Although it was creamy and cheesy with a white chedder...it was lacking flavor. I had to add more of this and that to perk it up. And my one daughter went as far as to add Barbeque Sauce lol. Another alternative could be to make an Egyptian twist: and serve with ground beef and add cumin and to the macaroni and latter. I tried that the next day for left overs, or as i like to say "Sloppy seconds"...and it was actually AHHHmazing! So in one way the blandness sucks, but it allows for a nice base of creativity. So get down and dirty in the kitchen and create your own Macaroni Monday.
And dig into golden goodness as a cheating cook.
